Exhibition at the T Hotel in Cagliari
In 2022, I was invited to participate in the "Unexpected Fashion" exhibition at the T Hotel in Cagliari. It was a great opportunity to get our name out there, but also a creative challenge we didn't want to take on alone. That's how we called upon Susanna from Peralia Studio, a ceramist whose work we adore.
Macramé and ceramics? Of course! Together, we decided to tell a story through our work, a story of Sardinia, using raw materials: local Sardinian cotton rope and terracotta. Without colors or varnish, we worked with the materials in their most natural state.
We created an XXL macramé net bag, reminiscent of fishing nets and the sea. Sinuous ceramic waves, which evoke the Sardinian stones polished by the wind and moisture, are integrated into it. The sound produced by the terracotta elements in the fringes immediately transports us to the Sardinian mountains, amidst a herd of goats. It's an invitation to a journey between land and sea, which we named "La Borsa Esagerata" (the exaggerated bag).
This artwork draws its inspiration from the natural world of Sardinia, as if it were a creature forged directly by Mother Earth. We worked together intuitively to give life to a mix of sensations that can be admired in this bag which, like a garment, protects and envelops its wearer. The earth offers its protection, it welcomes and invites you on a tactile journey between the cotton braids and the sinuous waves of the ceramic. For its creation, we specifically chose simple and raw materials. The knot used is the most basic in the macramé tradition, and the terracotta was worked only with our hands, without the addition of glazes or colors.
